A freehand illustration I did for a tutorial that will be published in »Creative Aktuell«.
Some years ago I took this photo of a blue tit chick sitting just outside my window. They raise their chicks in the building's insulation. I always liked the texture of its feather coat. When I began the illustration I didn't know where this would take me. I wanted to preserve the nature of a drawing and not make this into a photorealistic rendering. So I used Illustrator's calligraphy and bristle brushes, the pencil tool and very few gradients. Most of the drawing just stayed how I drew it, only few strokes have been corrected afterwards. This shouldn't be too clean.
