When designing something I quickly scribble text. This is the serif type of scribble text I write and I used Adobe Shape to digitize it, then imported into Illustrator to scale the letters to the same size and the font editor Birdfont to make a ttf file. The typeface should keep its rough appearance so I barely edited the glyph shapes.
